Sumber berkata, Maika yang dipengerusikan oleh bekas Presiden MIC, Tun S.Samy Vellu ketika itu sepatutnya membeli 10 juta saham bagaimanapun hanya membeli satu (1) juta saham yang bernilai RM10 juta.

Sebelum pembelian saham itu dilakukan, Maika telah membuat pinjaman dengan Arab Malaysian Merchant Bank Berhad dan dipercayai berjaya memperoleh pembiayaan kredit sebanyak RM50 juta untuk membeli 10 juta saham.

Surat tawaran pertama pinjaman itu telah dihantar kepada Maika melalui Tan Sri G.K Rama Iyer bertarikh 5 Oktober 1990 untuk membeli 10 juta saham biasa Telekom berharga RM1 sesaham pada harga RM5 sesaham.

Bagaimanapun pada 8 Oktober 1990 iaitu tiga hari selepas itu, Arab Malaysian telah menghantar surat tawaran pinjaman baharu bernilai RM5 juta bagi membeli sejuta saham Telekom dengan harga RM5 sesaham.

Pengurangan pinjaman bagi membeli saham Telekom itu dibuat berdasarkan surat arahan daripada Kementerian Kewangan kepada syarikat telekomunikasi itu pada 6 Oktober 1990.

Surat Kementerian Kewangan itu yang ditandatangani oleh Ketua Setiausaha Perbendaharaan ketika itu memaklumkan bahawa pihaknya telah membatalkan 10 juta saham dan memperuntukkan satu (1)juta saham kepada Maika pada harga sama.

Bagaimanapun sehingga kini baki peruntukan sembilan juta saham Telekom kepada Maika itu masih menjadi tanda tanya mengapa syarikat yang mempunyai 66,000 pelabur India itu yang berkemampuan untuk membeli kesemua 10 juta saham terbabit tidak membelinya?

Memandangkan skandal kewangan ini berlaku ketika era pemerintahan Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, beliau sepatutnya memandang serius perkara ini kerana ia melibatkan dana awam dan melibatkan kepentingan umum.
